Ligurian Slate at “StonExpo 2006”, Las Vegas

"Stonexpo 2006" was held at the Las Vegas Convention Center from 9 to 11 November. The annual event is devoted mainly to natural stone and its uses in building and interior architecture and is considered one of America’s most important building fairs.

The participation of Ligurian slate in “Stonexpo 2006” was accompanied by a marketing plan that saw various side initiatives especially aimed at building professionals, the strategic target of the stone project in the USA, which began this year in the framework of the agreement between ICE and Liguria Region.
Among other things, for the first time the recently created “ARDESIA LIGURIA” mark was used and disseminated in the promotional material developed.
The “Lapis – La Vera Lavagna” Consortium displayed its creations for interior architecture in a 30 m2 stand. Visitors were very numerous and particularly interested in this handsome natural stone. Slate Project in Germany, year two

Dresden Seminar, 28 May 2002
A series of initiatives covered by the agreement between ICE (the Italian Foreign Trade Institute) and the Region of Liguria have been co-ordinated to promote the use of Ligurian slate on the German market. The project is now in its second year and will continue into 2003.

On 28 May 2002, Villa Salzburg in Dresden played host to a technical seminar on the characteristics and possible uses of slate in architecture. One of the main reasons for choosing the city of Dresden for the event is the extent of potential building restoration work here.

Trade association Assolapidei concurrently organised an exhibition of major slate projects at Villa Salzburg to mark the occasion.

German geologist dr. Detlev Hill gave a brief presentation of the origins, natural history and technical peculiarities of slate, while Genoese architect prof. Giorgio Mor illustrated the uses of slate in past and present architecture, as well as examining prospects for the future.

A hundred and sixty people took part in the seminar, mainly architects, engineers and designers selected and contacted by the Italian Foreign Trade Institute’s Berlin office from a list of professional firms operating in Dresden and surrounding areas. The event continued into the evening with the projection of "Slate", a film by German director Rainer Görß, and the presentation of “The Slate Portal”, an online website in English, German, French and Italian with links to individual company sites.

Prof. Giorgio Mor's presentation entitled “The use of slate in architecture past and present” is available for download in pdf format.
